The competition has a long tradition (40 in 2 years) with a rolling trophy. Competitor who wins the same trophy – cup, 3 times can keep it for good. Juha and Tero had won the cup 2 times therefore they were hot candidates for taking it home this year.
Most of competitors arrived already on Friday and enjoyed beauty of Puruvesi lake at Ruokkeen Lomakyla.
Total of 22 competitors singed to Raceboard (15) or Open (7) class to compete together.
We rushed to the first start right after skippers meeting since heavy rain and local thunderstorms were forecasted for most of the day.
The first race took decent 30 min for Juha who took overall lead before Ben and Tero.
The second race was much shorter, around the closest island and back, due to approaching heavy rain and stormy clouds. Wind picked up to gliding conditions. Many competitors underestimated wind shadow behind the island and dropped down by few places. Heavy rain and risk of storms prevented further racing that day.
We woke up to a completely different day without any sign of rain and stormy weather from the previous day. Unfortunately wind didn’t pick up to forecasted 4 m/s and we needed to race in very low and shifty wind conditions.
Open class competitors used significantly bigger sails but low wind was more in favour of lighter 9,5 m2 Raceboard sails.
The overall victory and the cup was taken by Juha, with Ben being the 2nd and Tero the 3rd.
It wouldn’t be Puruvesi competition without everybody getting some price.
Thanks for the great competition to organisers and competitors.
Looking forward to a new rolling trophy next year.
